Slow Cooker Beef and Broccoli Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 3 garlic cloves minced
  • 1 pound uncooked boneless top round roast of beef thinly sliced and cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 cups broccoli chopped
  • 6 servings of rice

Instructions

  1. Add the broth, soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, and garlic to the crock pot; mix together.
  2. Add the beef; stir until coated.
  3. Turn crock pot on low; cover.
  4. Cook for 6 hours, or until the beef is cooked.
  5. Remove 1/2 cup of the liquid from the crock pot and mix together with the cornstarch.
  6. Add the cornstarch mixture back to the crock pot; stir thoroughly.
  7. Add in the frozen broccoli; stir until coated.
  8. Return the lid to the crock pot and cook for 30 minutes.
  9. Meanwhile, prepare rice according to package directions.
  10. Evenly divide rice on 4 plates.
  11. Spoon beef and broccoli over the rice, drizzling some of the liquid from the crock pot over top.

Hawaiian-Style Loco Moco

Loco Moco is a traditional meal found in many fast food restaurants in Hawai’i, especially local places such as Zippy’s and L&L Hawaiian BBQ. This recipe is really pretty simple, consisting of only 4 essential items: rice, a hamburger patty, an egg, and brown gravy. I was stationed in Hawai’i for 4 years during my time in the Navy, and I had more than my share of Loco Moco. This is definitely my favorite Hawaiian plate lunch. Although it’s much better to get this to go and enjoy it on a beautiful Hawaiian beach, it’s nice to have a little bit of Hawaiiana here in Ohio.

Ingredients

Gravy

  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 3 tbsp flour
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire Sauce
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • salt and pepper to taste

Patties

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 cup grated onions optional
  • salt and pepper to taste

Remaining Ingredients

  • 4 eggs
  • 4 cups cooked white rice

Instructions

Gravy

  1. Melt butter in saucepan over medium heat.

  2. Add flour; stir until mixture becomes a dark brown color, 6 to 8 minutes.

  3. Pour in Worcestershire sauce; stir.


  4. Cook 1 minute.

  5. Add beef broth, salt, and pepper to taste; bring to a boil.

  6. Reduce heat and cook until sauce is thickened, about 20 minutes.

Patties

  1. While the gravy is thickening, mix the ground beef, onion, salt, and pepper together.

  2. Divide the mixture into 4 balls; flatten them into patties.

  3. Fry the patties to the desired doneness.

Eggs

  1. Fry the eggs, sunny-side-up.

Presentation

  1. Evenly divide the rice between for plates.

  2. Place a hamburger patty on top of the rice.

  3. Place an egg on top of the hamburger.

  4. Drizzle gravy over the entire dish.
